Staff Quick Start¶
Welcome to the Barren Land staff team.
This page is designed to get you operational as quickly as possible. It is not a replacement for the Staff Handbook—it is a guide to help you start moderating confidently.
Your Priorities¶
When moderating, remember these priorities:
- Protect the community.
- Gather evidence.
- Apply the rules fairly.
- Document significant actions.
- Ask for help when unsure.
You are never expected to know everything.
Before You Moderate¶
Before handling reports independently, make sure you have:
- Read the Server Rules.
- Read the Staff Handbook.
- Reviewed the Moderation Workflow.
- Enabled MFA on Discord.
- Confirmed your staff permissions.
- Learned where evidence is stored.
- Learned how to document investigations.
The Standard Workflow¶
Every case generally follows the same process:
- Receive the report.
- Assess urgency.
- Gather evidence.
- Identify the applicable rule.
- Consider context.
- Decide on the appropriate action.
- Communicate clearly.
- Document the case.
- Request review if required.
- Close the investigation.
Cases That Require Review¶
Always request review for:
- Permanent bans.
- Appeals.
- Trial Administrator disciplinary actions.
- Staff misconduct.
- Complex investigations.
- Cases involving unclear policy.
If you're unsure whether a case requires review, ask.
Remember¶
Good moderators are not the ones who punish the most.
They are the ones players trust to be:
- Fair
- Consistent
- Professional
- Respectful
Those qualities matter more than experience.
