Welcome

Welcome to the Barren Land Staff Team.

Whether you're serving as a Discord Moderator, Trial Administrator, Administrator, or in a leadership role, you've accepted a position of trust. Every member of the staff team plays a part in maintaining a welcoming, enjoyable, and fair environment for our players.

This handbook exists to provide clear guidance on how we operate as a staff team. It establishes common expectations, explains our procedures, and serves as the primary reference for staff responsibilities — so players receive consistent treatment regardless of which staff member assists them.

This handbook is a living document. As the server grows and our community evolves, our procedures may change. When they do, staff will be notified and this handbook will be updated accordingly.

Our Mission

To foster a fair, welcoming, and enjoyable community by applying server rules consistently, treating every player with respect, and making moderation decisions that support the long-term health of the server.

Our role is not to control how players enjoy the game.

Our role is to create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to enjoy it.

What This Handbook Contains

This handbook serves as the primary operational reference for all Barren Land staff. It includes guidance on:

  • Staff roles and responsibilities
  • Standards of conduct and professionalism
  • Administrative security expectations
  • Moderation philosophy and best practices
  • Standard moderation workflow
  • Disciplinary procedures
  • Documentation standards
  • Appeals and review processes
  • Staff communication expectations
  • Operational procedures

The Administrative Governance Framework covers leadership-level policy — staffing, security requirements, and organizational procedures — that supports and informs this handbook. Where the two overlap, the most recently approved version takes precedence.

Your Responsibility as a Staff Member

Receiving staff permissions is not simply access to moderation tools — it is accepting responsibility for the trust placed in you by both the community and the rest of the staff team.

Players may not remember every decision that was made, but they will remember whether they felt they were treated fairly and respectfully.

Be patient. Be consistent. Be honest. Ask questions when you're uncertain. Seek review when appropriate. Support your fellow staff members.

Above all, remember that our shared goal is not simply enforcing rules — it is building and maintaining a community that players are excited to return to.

Welcome to the team.
